Checks representing donations for the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival were reportedly written in favor of one city hall employee instead of the Zamboanga city government.

This was the subject of a privilege speech at the City Council made by Councilor Rudy Lim which sought clarification from concerned offices of the local government.

“Tiene allegations that certain donations were made in the name of certain individuals.  That’s what we need to clarify,”  Lim pointed out.

The city dad explained that based on his knowledge, all transactions and payments being made in sponsorship and donations for the festival should be under the city government of Zamboanga.

Lim’s colleagues wish to know the total value of solicitations for the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival and how the money was spent.

It will be recalled that the city government earmarked the amount of P5-million for the festival, a figure higher than last year’s figure.

The budget does not include donations.

The august body urged Lim to reveal the name of the employee in public to  clarify the issue and spare the others who are also involved in the festival.

Lim instead proposed a resolution asking for a dialogue during the next council session, a proposal which majority approved. (Bhong Simbajon)
