Authorities have reported no major security-related incidents nor damage to property during the observance of All Saints’ Day  and All Souls’ Day in region 9.

Zamboanga City Police Spokesperson Sr Insp Shellamie Chang said that policemen were deployed to different cemeteries to ensure an orderly observance of All Souls’Day.

Zamboanga City Police Director Chief Sr Supt Neri Vincent Ignacio made the rounds of cemeteries to personally ensure the implementation of two Executive Orders issued by Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar.

No major incident was reported except for a commotion in some cemeteries after some policemen prevented cemetery visitors from  bringing in lighters, matches and paint.

Chang attributed the incident to “confusion” on the part of policemen who may have been eager to implement rules related to the Mayor’s Executive Order.

District Fire Marshall Clint Cha later issued a statement saying that they have not issued any orders prohibiting the bringing in of the items.

Meanwhile, Highway Patrol Group-9 (HPG-9 ) Regional Chief Sr Supt. Joel Dimaano said HPG troopers were deployed to the different cemeteries in region 9 for the All Saints’ Day observance.

Dimaano said that the deployment and assignment  were maximized because some troopers were assigned to Metro Manila for the UNDAS observance.

Nevertheless, remaining troopers were able to ensure the orderly visitation and traffic management in the region.

“Karamihan kasi sa Sur, Norte at Sibugay ang mga sementeryo ay nasa highway.  Kaya medyo focused and mga troopers namin doon at tumutulong sa pag traffic.  Wala naman na report na nasaktan o nadisgrasya,” Dimaano said.

Dimaano commended and lauded his troopers for a job well done and for their good coordination with traffic enforcers in the region.  (Allen Abastillas)
