District 1 Congressman Celso Lobregat has urged officials of  the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) to resolve its issues to prevent further agony suffered by consumers brought about by an unstable power supply.

Lobregat, who sits as a member of the Congressional  Committee on Energy, cited the need to resolve issues pertaining to its entry into an Investment Management Contract  (IMC) which has been experiencing delays for several months now.

“For me the best option is the IMC rather than to let the National Electrification Administration (NEA) take over the cooperative.

We have been in that situation before but nothing happened,”  Lobregat said.

ZAMCELCO management earlier targeted the month of August to resolve issues pertaining to the IMC’s Terms of Reference (TOR) but the matter remains unresolved despite an intervention by NEA.

Lobregat said that if ZAMCELCO officials will not consider  other favorable options, the people of Zamboanga will suffer more agony from an unstable power supply and poor service by the electric cooperative.

Aside from the IMC, Zamcelco officials have considered applying for a bank loan and swapping its present property in Putik with a major retail investor to save themselves from financial ruin. (Dexter Yap)
