CELSO-DENR hired Forest Protection Officers Print

Congressman Celso Lobregat in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)hired some 178 forest protection officers who will assist the department in the preservation of our forestlands.

Congressman Lobregat said that this project on job employment opportunity came after his manifestation & request to DENR head office to initiate programs for the preservation of the remaining watershed of Zamboanga City.

Lobregat yesterday met with the barangays chairmen of the areas situated adjacent to the watershed in order to inform them of the significance and process of the said program which will be helpful to each communities as well as livelihood opportunity to the beneficiaries themselves.

It will be the barangay officials who will identify the persons who lives near the forestlands in their respective areas and recommend then for said employment.

"The purpose of this program  is for forest protection and DENR will be paying their compensation,"  Lobregat said.

The forest protection officers will be assisting the forest guards in conducting patrols, supporting the greening program and inform authorities of those individuals who are destroying our remaining watershed.

Lobregat said that those who will be hired will be deployed in the forest of their respective barangays starting November 16.

Lobregat said that he has also proposed to DENR to spare the essential budget for next year's National Greening Program (NGP) in order to have longer period in initiating efforts for forest protection.

The solon said that his office together with DENR has also coordinated with the Zamboanga City Water District and Zamboecozone who manages the watershed area of the city.

Those persons who will be chosen by the respective barangay chairmen will attend the Nov.13&14 orientation for proper guidance about such program.-Dexter Yap
