A man who allegedly extorted and  threatened to abduct the son of a 53-year old woman was arrested by police during an entrapment operation along Veterans Avenue Extension, Tumaga last Sunday.

Police arrested Jen-jen Jimenez y Saykala alias Abdulla S. Mawan, 26 years old, single,  a resident of Kilometer 6, Pasonanca and a native of Jolo, Sulu.

Jimenez was arrested by elements of the Sta Maria Police while trying to claim the money sent by the female victim at a money remittance shop along Pilar Street.

Police said that Irene Tillah y Pungutan, 53 years old, sought assistance from police after Jimenez tried to extort money from her.

Jimenez, who used his alias Abdulla Mawan, reportedly sent a text message to Tillah demanding P20,000 while threatening to abduct the latter’s son.

In fear, Tillah sent the amount of P20,000 to Jimenez, who later claimed the money at a money remittance shop.

Last October 18, the suspect once again demanded the amount of P8,000 from Tillah, which the latter promptly remitted.

Last Friday, Tillah finally went to police after the suspect again demanded money from her.

Police, along with the complainant, set up an entrapment operation that resulted to the suspect’s arrest.

The suspect is detained at the Sta Maria Police Station pending the filing of robbery-extortion charges.  (Dan Toribio)
