Thousands of pilgrims and other religious leaders joined the opening parade and program of the National Youth Day Monday afternoon in Zamboanga city.

Mark Saavedra, NYD Executive Secretary, said that a total of 2.052 young people aged 13 to 39, arrived in Zamboanga from different areas in the Philippines starting last Sunday to attend the five-day program.

There were also 15 bishops who participated in the program.

A holy mass was held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to start the event.
