Congress, CHED to evaluate ZCSPC university conversion Print

The members of the Committee on Higher and Technic Education (CTHE) of the House of Representatives and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) are in Zamboanga City to conduct an evaluation on the present status of Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) which seeks for its conversion into a university.

The group,  spearheaded by Committee Chairperson and Congresswoman Anne Hofer of Zamboanga Sibugay Province and Congressman Celso Lobregat, are here to conduct site and facility inspection, documentary analysis, interview with key officials, informants, and other documentary tasks to determine if ZCSPC has passed the criteria to be converted into a university.

Recalled that Congressman Lobregat filed House Bill 3929, an Act converting the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College into a State University to be known as Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University.

The bill was approved on the house committee level pending compliance of the necessary requirements mandated by law.

Congressman Lobregat said that after the necessary evaluation of CHED Central Office and the House Commitee on Higher and Technical Education, the bill will be passed to the plenary for approval and will become into law.

The conversion of ZCSPC into a university is expected to enhance its prime mission to provide effective and efficient services through advanced technological studies and researches for the tertiary students in Zamboanga City and the region.-Dexter Yap
