The City Treasurer’s Office has not received P250,000 worth of collections for the Zamboanga Hermosa from sponsors of the festival.

Romelita Candido, OIC-City Treasurer, said that of the P1.075-million in sponsorship money reported, only P825,000 were received by the City Treasurer’s office.

Candido later said that the donations which her office failed to receive constituted “pledges.”

The festival ran for the whole month of October.

Candido made the revelation during a City Council dialogue called to shed light on the alleged issuance and encashment of sponsorship cheques for the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival under Christian Olasiman’s name.  Olasiman was designated Events Head by City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar.

The practice was said to contravene local government rules to have all sponsorship cheques issued in the name of the city government of Zamboanga.

During the dialogue, Olasiman admitted that sponsors have issued some cheques to him as payee and he himself encashed the cheques under his name.

In line with  local government regulations, Candido said that her office cannot receive the cheques under the Olasiman’s name.

Candido said that all donations given to the city government were placed under a trust fund which all came under possession of the city government and did not constitute a part of the general fund.

Olasiman’s team reportedly submitted a program for the trust fund on where the sponsorship money will be used.

“Per report del team di Olasiman, he presented the supplemental and total cash sponsorship.  P1.075-million but only P825,000 materialized.  We were able to disburse this,” Candido said. (Liza Jocson)
