Naval Forces have secured the area of Pearl Bank in Tawi Tawi, one of the most dangerous areas in the region used by lawless elements to conduct piracy and human trafficking activities.

Naval Forces Western Mindanao Commander Rear Admiral Rene V. Medina said that criminal activity in the area was minimized due to the presence of troops assigned to guard the area.

“Naglagay na kami ng mga Marine troopers and Navy sailors doon para ma-secure yung border lines at makikita palagi ang mga dumadaan doon na boats at ma-check sila,”  Medina said.

As a result, Medina has noted a decrease in the number of human trafficking incidents in the sealanes of Panguan and Silway islands.

The sealanes are regularly used by human traffickers to transport their victims to Malaysia.

The area is also used for piracy and kidnapping activities.  (Allen Abastillas)
