Four Vietnamese hostages were recovered by government troops during a rescue operation in Tawi Tawi early Friday morning.

A Western Mindanao Command report identified the rescued hostages as Buy Xuan Vien, Bui Trung Duc, Nguten Quang Huy and Nguyin Huu Trong.

They were rescued in Kang Tipayan Island in Languyan, Tawi Tawi at around 7:45am last Friday.

It was reported however that Huu Trong had been recovered dead after succumbing to a disease during his captivity.

The Vietnamese hostages are crew members of Marine Vessel Giang Hai 5 who were abducted by the Abu Sayyaf off Pearl Bank in Pangutaran Sulu last February 25. (Liza Jocson)
