Eight Abu Sayyaf members under the late sub-leader Alhabsi Misaya surrendered to troops of Joint Task Force Sulu last Sunday.

The Abu Sayyaf members surrendered to Lt Col. Jessie Montoya, 2nd Special Forces Battalion Commanding Officer.

The surrenderers also yielded one M16, one M14 and five Garand rifles.

According to a report from the Western Mindanao Command, the surrenderers operated mostly in the areas of Omar, Capual, Panamao, Tongkil and Parang in Sulu province.

“Mujakkir and his companions capitulated to the troops as a result of the sustained conduct of combat and intelligence operations launched by our ground troops against the Abu Sayyaf,” said Brigadier General Cirilito Sobejana,  Joint Task Force Sulu Commander.

“They subsequently underwent medical examination and custodial debriefing facilitated by our troops in Busbus, Jolo,” Sobejana added.

The subjects are presently in the custody of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion in Barangay Samak, Talipao, Sulu.

This brings to 135 the total number of Abu Sayyaf members who yielded to the military since January this year.  (Westmincom/ PR)
