Highway Patrol Group-9 troopers were able to recover in Basilan Province a Mitsubishi Adventure wagon, a vehicle which was reportedly carnapped using the “rent tangay”  scheme.

HPG Isabela City Team Unit Chief Inspector Alson Aripin identified the unit as a white Mitsubishi Adventure wagon with improvised plate number DAT 1981.

The unit was reportedly rented last September by a certain  Anas Masohol from Fe Bautista of Santolan Quezon City.

Accordingly, Masohol rented the car to fetch his relative from  the airport.  Masohol however never returned the vehicle.

Bautista reported the incident to the Camp Caringal Police  Station and to the headquarters of the Highway Patrol Group in  Camp Crame.

The HPG main headquarters then alerted all their units  nationwide.

When Aripin received the order from the HPG main  headquarters, he immediately conducted an anti-carnapping  operation and the unit was recovered.

“Madali lang makita dito sa Basilan kasi isa lang circumferential  road.  Na intercept kaagad ang unit dahil improvised ang plate number,”  Aripin said.  (Allen Abastillas)
