Five kidnap victims who were rescued in waters off Tawi Tawi last Friday were presented to the media Monday morning at the Naval Forces Western Mindanao Headquarters at the Western MIndanao Command.

The five were identified as Vergel Aquino from Davao city, Jushua Ybanez, Emo Fausto, Junald Minalang and Spriano Sordid from Pagadian.

The five are crew members of a fising boat, the Danvil 8, who were abducted while seeking shelter at the coast of Pangutaran Sulu due to inclement weather.

The five were rescued in seawaters off Sugbay Island in Languyan Tawi Tawi at 1:30pm last Friday.

Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen Carlito Galvez said that the victims were rescued due to combined operations by government forces which started after troops under Joint Task Force Sulu conducted operations to rescue the victims.

The continuing conduct of combat operations to rescue the kidnap victims left the Abu Sayyaf unable to focus and gave the contacts an opportunity to lead the kidnap victims to safety, according to a statement read by Galvez. (LAJ)
