A notorious murder suspect and gun-for- hire and five of his cohorts were arrested by Philippine Navy personnel through the Naval Forces Western Mindanao within the vicinity of Bolod

Island, Tongkil Sulu last Monday night. The Philippine Navy identified the suspect as Omar Amping, 39 years old, a resident of Talon Talon Zamboanga city.

Amping is also identified as a notorious gun-for hire who is ranked number four in the PNP’s Most Wanted List of Personalities in Zamboanga city.  He has two standing warrants of arrest for five counts of Murder.

The five other suspects were identified as Gabby S. Juwa, 35; Jadi Luhadi, 21, Alcimel Abdulla, 18, Madi Jalilul, 19 and Sakkam Dekani, 60.

Last Monday,  a Special CAFGU Auxilliary (SCAA) member of  the NFWM reported that a commercial fishing vessel, the FB Nancy 888, was being chased by a group of armed men.

The armed men were reportedly aboard two motorized pump boats within the Sibarot fishing grounds located between the provinces of Basilan and Sulu.

NFWM Commander Rear Admiral Rene V. Medina ordered the activation of NTG 61.1, the Quick Reaction Team of Naval Task Force 61 and the deployment of the BRP Manuel Gomez and one Navy Seal Team to conduct Maritime Interdiction Operations.

The armed group led by Amping was apprehended and subsequently transported to the NFWM Headquarters in Zamboanga city.

The men were believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf. a kidnap for ransom group operating within the area.

The group reportedly underwent a medical check-up at a military hospital and interrogation by police and military authorities.  (NAVFORWEM PR)
