The Department of Interior and Local Government formally conferred to the City Government of Zamboanga through Mayor Beng Climaco the 2017 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) or Pagkilala sa Katapatan at Kahusayan ng Pamahalaang Lokal during formal rites held at the Manila Hotel Thursday, November 29.

Zamboanga City is the only city and local government unit in Western Mindanao that received the seal, which is a DILG performance-based assessment for LGUs nationwide. The criteria focused on four core areas- financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order as well as business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental protection and tourism, culture and arts.

A total of 448 provinces, cities and municipalities were recipients of the SGLG with awarding ceremonies stretching from Nov. 27 to Nov. 29.

Accompanying Mayor Climaco in receiving the award were DILG Regional Director Faizal Abutazil and Executive Assistant Antonio Orendain Jr., who was the head of the LGU SGLG technical working group.

The City of Zamboanga also received the SGLG in 2016 with a Performance Challenge Fund of P3.4 million, which is used for certain projects based on the criteria set by the DILG. (Sheila Covarrubias/PR)
