Cong. Celso Lobregat was honored as an Outstanding Congressman by Superbrand Marketing International (SMI), an international arbiter of brands and branding in a ceremony held on November 28, 2017 at The City Club, Alpha Land Bldg., in Makati City.

Cong. Lobregat also received the same award in 2016 wherein the prestigious award giving body commended the exemplary efforts of Cong. Lobregat in prioritizing the development of Zamboanga City.

The representative from the 1st district of Zamboanga City was among the 15 Congressmen who were given the Outstanding Congressmen Award this year.

In a coffee table book published by SMI this year, it was noted that Cong. Lobregat is described in Chabacano as “probao y aprobao y puede confia” which means tried and tested but more importantly can be trusted. SMI further noted that in 2008, Cong. Lobregat was the only non-lawyer mayor to speak before the Supreme Court en banc on the Zamboanga City’s petition against the Memorandum on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) Bangsamoro Judicial Entity (BJE). The solon also took the lead in arguing against the unconstitutional and disadvantageous provisions of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) during the 16th Congress.

Cong. Lobregat was again credited for his exceptional leadership and service citing his priorities which includes education, health, community assistance, infrastructure projects, transportation, energy, environment, agriculture and justice among others.

Cong. Lobregat was also lauded for his active leadership as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Works and Highways being in close coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways in addressing issues and concerns relating to the policies of the Department.

In his acceptance speech, Cong. Lobregat thanked SMI for awarding him the Outstanding Congressman Award for two consecutive years. He also thanked his mother Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat who was a congresswoman and mayor of Zamboanga City who died in office. “If not for her, I don’t think I will be in this world,” Cong. Lobregat said.

Cong. Lobregat also thanked the constituents of Zamboanga City who voted for him as congressman, mayor and as congressman again. Lobregat said “If they did not vote for me and put me in office, I will not be here today.”

“Most of all, I would like to thank the Lord for giving me all the blessings and our patron saint, Nuestra Señor La Virgen Del Pilar for all the guidance and protection she has given me all throughout these years. To God be the glory,” Cong. Lobregat added.

The solon commented on an earlier speech by one of the guest speakers that said: “everyone who comes to this stage has made a difference”. For Cong. Lobregat, every time he hears that phrase he takes the opposite view. “I think that everyone who has come up to this stage has made an addition, not a difference, everyone who comes to this stage wants to multiply and not divide. In the end, we are all here to add whatever we can to the betterment of the nation and we are here to multiply the blessings for everybody,” Cong. Lobregat said. (Dexter Yap/PR)
