Hidilyn bags two more medals Print

Zamboangueña Olympian Hidilyn Diaz bagged two medals in the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championship held in California, USA.

The competition  started last November 27 and will end on December 5.

Elbert Atilano, Philippine Weightlifting Association Vice President, said  that Diaz bagged a silver medal for weightlifting in the Women’s 53 kg category, in clean and jerk lifting 113 kilograms.

Over all, she lifted a total of 119 kilograms which gave her a bronze medal.

For the Clean and Jerk competition, Thailand bagged the first place followed by the Philippines represented by Diaz.  Third placer was Turkmenia.

For the overall in the 53kg women category Thailand bagged first, Turkmenia second, and the Philippines bagged third place.

“Congratulations, continue to bring honor, always pray for guidance, and keep your feet on the ground,” Atilano said.

According to Atilano, this competition will condition Diaz for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Diaz was with Kristel Macrohon who is also scheduled to compete.  Both  are being trained by Coach Antonio Agustin Jr.

Diaz already competed during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2012 London Olympics, and during the 2016 Rio de Jeneiro Olympics she also bagged the silver medal for the Philippines. (R.G. A A. Go)
