For School Year 2017 alone, Rep. Dalipe has allocated more than P8 million pesos for the educational assistance of  some 100 deserving college students from the 2nd District. For Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC), 278 new scholars were enrolled. For Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST), there were 290 college scholars while 420 were listed for Western Mindanao State University (WMSU).

Dalipe, as vice-chairperson of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education is a strong advocate of free college education being one of the co-authors of House Bill 5633 which was enacted as RA 10931 or “An Act Promoting Universal Access To Quality Tertiary Education By Providing For Free Tuition And Other School Fees In State Universities And Colleges And State-Run Technical-Vocational Institutions, Strengthening The Unified Student Financial Assistance System,”

According to Dalipe, currently most of the scholars are already in the 3rd year and 4th year level of their respective four-year course in the tertiary education.

“Those enrolled in the 3rd year and 4th year level are the ones being given priority in the scholarship program by our office since we would like to ensure that they will finish their college education thru our humble cash assistance,” Dalipe told reporters in an interview.

The Zamboanga solon said that another reason why they are prioritizing the third year and fourth year students is because those in these junior and senior levels have already proven that they are really studying hard otherwise they did not reach the junior or senior years in college.

“Besides, the parents have already spent for their freshmen and sophomore years, and so they are also the ones who badly need assistance since the 3rd year and 4th year level entail much more expenses in projects and other school activities,” Dalipe stressed.

The congressman also bared that he is still looking for ways and mean on how to further increase the number of scholars for the next school year.

Dalipe conferred with his congressional scholars during their Christmas party initiated by his office at the City Mall Tetuan on Sunday.

The scholars were grateful to the congressman for his support and concern to the education sector especially to poor but deserving students.

In fact, in one Facebook post of Mayel Bontigao, she expressed appreciation to Rep. Dalipe. “Thank you so much for your kindness Congressman Mannix Dalipe. Thank you so much for helping us always especially sa maagang Pamasko, sulit talaga ang day namin kanina sobrang nag enjoy po kami. Sobrang napasaya nyo po kaming mga estudyante. Godbless po always and more blessings to come pa, para mas marami ka pang mga estudyanteng matulungan. We love you Congressman. From: ZSCMST(Fisheries),” as posted online.-(Jemuel E. Mojica)
