The City Health Office has confirmed that Zamboanga children have not been immunized with Dengvaxia, the controversial dengue vaccine with deleterious side effects to some of its recipients.

Zamboanga City Health Officer Dr Rodel Agbulos said that the vaccine was not able to reach Zamboanga City.

However, he said that the Department of Health offered to deliver the vaccine to the City Health Office during a time when dengue cases increased in the city of Zamboanga.

The delivery did not push through.

Agbulos asked residents not to worry because not a single child in Zamboanga has been given Dengvaxia by government doctors.

Dengvaxia is facing government probe after dangerous side effects were seen during studies made among recipients who have not been infected with the dengue virus.

A total of 733,713 children from three regions in Luzon have been vaccinated with Dengvaxia under a DOH program.

The government paid close to P800 million for the administration of 800,000 doses under the DOH program.  (Liza Jocson)
