Drug trafficking in the country is a multi- billion peso industry that attracts and maintains numerous players involved in the illegal activity.

In an interview over E-media, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-9 (PDEA-9) Regional Director Lyndon Aspacio said that the various activities under drug trafficking amounts to nearly P60-billion.

“Conservative estimate ng drug trafficking, ang estimate na traffic is around P56-billion,”  Aspacio said.

He said that this is the reason why the industry attracts many players despite the risks and the action government is  taking to eliminate the drug menace.

Aspacio said that the agency is undertaking the demand reduction campaign as part of their mandate to eliminate the use of drugs.

The campaign is expected to discourage users to engage in illegal drugs.

Last Saturday, the PDEA-9 office together with PNP personnel nabbed five suspects in a buy-bust operation at a parking lot of an inn in Barangay Sta Maria.

Two days later, a family of five was arrested for engaging in the illegal drug trade in Barangay Putik. (LAJ)
