Regional Research Forum held in Zambo Print

A Regional research forum was conducted in Zamboanga  last December 5 to 6 to showcase several research works by local students and doctors.

The research results presented were divided into professional category and students category.

The professional was participated in by the Zamboanga City Medical Center and Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine while  the students category was participated in by the Western Mindanao State University College of Nursing.

Six oral research projects and three for poster were presented for the professional while five oral researche projects and four posters were presented for the student category.

Research presented for oral presentation are the following: Diagnostic accuracy of Neuthrophil to Lymphocyte ratio in the diagnosis of complicated acute appendicitis among patients who underwent open appendectomy at Zamboanga City Medical Center, aftermath trauma: assessing post traumatic growth and decline among survivors of Zamboanga Siege, age specific prevalence of error of refraction among school children of selected schools in Zamboanga City, association between screen time and behavioral difficulties among grade six students from selected schools in urban Zamboanga city, quality of life of people living with HIV in Zamboanga City.

For students, oral research presented were awareness and advocacy program for teenage mothers, factors that motivate senior high schools students choice of nursing career, knowledge, attitude, and practices on the use of the pills basis for an effective client centered counseling, Hepatitis B vaccination status and incidence rate of needle stick and sharp related injuries among WMSU nursing students and nurses involvement on the clinical learning experiences of nursing students.

For the poster exhibits, research presented were early detection of individuals at high risk for developing diabetes mellitus and hypertension using FINDRISC tool embedded in SmartPhone application, clinical and biomedical profile and outcomes of adult patients taking Sehat Badan, sanitation of carinderias and sanitary practices of food handlers in Zamboanga city. For the student category, awareness and practices among garbage collectors towards occupational health hazards, level of awareness on breast self examination among college students, factors leading to the anxiety level of student nurses in giving parenternal medication, and strategies on HIV AIDS prevention among senior high students.

The forum was made possible through Department of Health (DOH), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and Zamboanga Consortium for Health Research and Development (ZCHRD).

“We want to showcase the research findings of the students and professionals to the community,” Nur Eldeen Echeverria, DOST-ZCHRD secretariat said in an interview.

These research findings will also be furnished to concerned agencies for their information and action.

Aside from these, the research results will also be published in their respective journals and research publications. (R.G. Go)
