A total of 336 storm surge victims have benefited from the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantage Displaced workers (TUPAD) program conducted at the covered court of barangay Labuan Friday afternoon.

This was done in coordination with the office of Congressman Celso Lobregat and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

First District Congressman Celso Lobregat said in an interview that of the 336 beneficiaries 242 came from barangay Labuan, Limpapa 43, Patalon 16, Recodo 5 from Talisayan 2 from Ayala, 5 from La Paz, 3 from Maasin seven, and 13 from Sinunuc.

According to Lobregat, these beneficiaries will render their services in their respective barangays.

In the program, the beneficiaries will work for 15 days and they will be paid P296 per day which is the existing minimum wage in the city.

At the end of the 15- day period, they are expected to receive a total of P4,440 if they do not have any absences.

“This is the way that the national government through the DOLE is helping the victims of the storm surge,” Lobregat said.

Recall, last October, the city was hit by storm surge and flooding affecting thousands of individuals, farmers, and fishefolks. (R.G. A A. Go)
