NPA member killed in Lakewood Print

A suspected member of the New People’s Army was killed during a clash with government troops in Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur last Sunday afternoon.

Police Regional Information Officer Chief Insp. Helen Galvez disclosed that military troops of the 53rd Infantry Battalion with members of the Civilian Armed Auxiliary led by 1Lt. Justin Michael Rabino were conducting  focused military operation in line with the “ultimatum-9” program when they encountered around 25 members of CTS’ SECOM KARA, WMRPC in barangay Gasa, Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur last Sunday afternoon.

After a brief exchange of gun fire, the rebels withdrew bringing with them their wounded comrades and leaving one body.

Government troops recovered an m60 machinegun, one CDY, a dismantled M16 machine gun, medical kit, five backpacks, four CDX wires, shower 25 and personal belongings like ladies’ underwear, jogging pants, two kettles, 12 M203 ammunition and five magazines of AK47 rifle.

No one was reported injured on the government side.

Soldiers believe that there are more fatalities on the enemy side due to the number of bodies being dragged by their enemies while escaping.  (Dan Toribio)
