A heavy downpour coupled with reckless driving led to a disastrous four vehicle collision along RT Lim Boulevard Wednesday night.

More than a dozen persons sustained injuries after a public utility jeepney driver lost control of his vehicle and set off a chain of collisions  involving a public utility van, a motorcycle and a private vehicle.

A Police Regional Office-9 report said that the jeepney was travelling on high speed during a heavy downpour along RT Lim Boulevard prior to the incident.

Upon reaching the area fronting the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Stadium, the jeepney driver applied its brakes to avoid hitting a public utility van which was reportedly making a U-turn at the time.

The jeepney swerved to its left side hitting the van’s right side.

Out of control, the jeepney continued to move to the opposite lane and hit a motorcycle which at the time was travelling from the opposite direction.

The motorcycle, in turn, was pushed sideward and hit a Toyota Innova parked along the road.

One passenger was seriously injured while other persons, including the jeepney driver, were wounded from the incident.

A Police Regional Office-9 report identified the vehicles and its correspnding drivers as Regnier Joven y Llalen, 23 years old, single and a resident of Katatagan Subdivision, Upper Calarian,  the driver of a public utility jeepney with plate number JVGA-283.

The Toyota Van with temporary plate number 092810 was driven by Ramonito Sagolili y Salido, 57 years old, married and a resident of Lopes Subdivision, Upper Calarian.

The Single Skygo motorcycle with temporary plate number 0901–0223292 was driven by Corporal Sherwin Alfonso y Gutieres, PN, 32 years old, single and a resident of Lustre Drive Sta Catalina.

The Toyota Innova Wagon with conduction sticker A1-J637 was left parked by Madawie Salip y Murad, 21, male, single and a resident of Elvira Drive, Upper Calarian.

The passengers of the public utility jeepney were identified as Vilma Formilleza y Canencia, 59  years  old, female,  widow, a resident of  Katatagan  Subdivision, Upper  Calarian;  Amelia   Ella  Aniñon   y   Libradilla,   25   years   old,   female,   single   of   Martha   Drive,Barangay Sta  Catalina;   Nieves  Zaragoza y Diosma,  30 years old,

Rebong y Sabalde, 18 years old, female, single of 28IB, Upper Calarian;  Sharifa   Buldiman   y  Abbas,   22   years   old,   female,   single   of   Upper   Calarian;  Esmeralda Andag y Imanil, 22 years old, female, single of Upper Calarian; Badidil Sabria y Lajarato, 19 years old, female, single of Katatagan Subdivision, Upper Calarian; Nurhusana Abdulhan y Abduhari, 21 years old, female, single of Katatagan Subdivision, Upper Calarian; Moh. Abdullah Jailani y Amarad, 19 years old, male,

single of Southcom Village, Upper Calarian; Mohammed Ivan Portuito y Ansong, 17 years old, male, single of Malagutay; Muktar Sahi y

This is the third time that a multi-vehicle collision occurred in Zamboanga city during a two-month period.

An 8-vehicle collision occurred along Veterans Avenue during the first week of November.

Two weeks later, a 7-vehicle collision happened along Nuñez Avenue extension. (Dan Toribio)
