A tricycle driver who reportedly abused a female passenger was shot by his victim’s policeman-cousin during a confrontation in Tetuan last Thursday.

A Police Regional Office-9 report identified the victim as Benito Redenton Granaderos, 53 years old, single, a native of Salug, Zamboanga del Norte working as a tricycle driver in the city.

Granaderos was reportedly shot and wounded by SPO3 Jhimer Agana Hadjirul, 46 years old, married and a resident of Palmeras, Guiwan.

Investigation disclosed that both suspect and victim were at the residence of the tricycle operator identified as Belen Gonzales Tan at Villa Asuncion in barangay Tetuan when the incident took place.

The suspect together with his aunt reportedly arrived in the area and confronted Granaderos about an abuse case filed by the cop’s female cousin.

It was learned that Granaderos is facing abuse charges for reportedly hurling statements with sexual undertones against the cousin of Hadjirul when the latter boarded the victim’s tricycle last December 8.

During investigation however, Hadjirul and the complainant’s mother were able to trace the address of the tricycle owner and went to the area where they had a confrontation with Granaderos.

During the conversation, Hadjirul’s aunt allegedly slapped Granaderos.

The dialogue quickly escalated into a heated confrontation  until the victim pulled out a kitchen knife and tried to stab the policeman.

Hadjirul reacted and shot the victim on his left leg.
