A female would-be victim’s jacket led to the arrest of a robbery suspect in Guiwan last Friday.

Lolita Dela Cruz Alfaro, 63, was travelling aboard her owner type vehicle when the backrider of riding in tandem robbers grabbed her bag which was placed on the passenger seat.

Alfaro’s jacket, however, which was partially inserted inside the bag, fell on the motorcycle sprocket and prevented the suspects from escaping.

Two policemen, PO2 Roberto Balbin and PO3 Jayson Alameda were on their way to the police station when they spotted a group of bystanders crowding around the vehicle.

This prompted them to stop and arrest the driver identified as Elmer Lim y Ruste, 37 years old, and a resident of Caragasan.

Lim’s cohort identified as Jovani Asoy evaded arrest.

Meanwhile, police conducted a body search on Lim and found a plastic sachet containing suspected marijuana.

The suspect was detained at the Zamboanga City Police Station 5.  (Dan Toribio)
