PPA joints in Solid Waste Mgt implementation Print

Zamboanga Port Management Office (PMO) has joined forces with the City Government for the implementation of Ordinance 176 or the Solid Waste Management Law aimed to ensure cleanliness in the city.

In a meeting with City Administrator Apple Go and her assistant Cesar Raz and Public Service Officer Rodrigo Pagotaisidro Tuesday morning, Port Manager Liberto Delarosa said the PMO will undertake steps to ensure the strict implementation of the SWM law inside the port area with the port police as primary enforcers.

The Base Port Zamboanga is located within the 7-kilometer radius of the city and is considered as the show window of the city, thus the need for the need for stringent measures in the implementation of the solid waste management law.

The city government started the implementation of the law on November 27 after several months of massive information drive. The local police, personnel from the City Administrator’s Office and the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) are tasked to enforce the ordinance.

Since its implementation, numerous violators have been fined and charged.

Delarosa said with the agreement with the city government, the “PMO-Zamboanga can help maintain cleanliness effort of the city especially inside the Port of Zamboanga being a component part of the city.”

Also in the meeting held at the office of the port manager was Jezrel Gasulgon, Port Police Division Manager. (Sheila Covarrubias)
