The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Zamboanga passed a resolution expressing its intention to host the 2018 Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) meet next year.

The resolution was passed during last Tuesday’s regular session.

First district councilor Elbert Atilano, Chairman on Youth and Sports, said that he proposed the resolution to promote sports tourism.

The resolution was approved by the city council unanimously.

After the resolution’s passage, sports officials are expected to come to Zamboanga and inspect the grandstand and athletes’ quarters in choosing the venue for next year’s ZPRAA meet.

If the sports competition will push through in Zamboanga, the 2018 ZPRAA meet will be the first sports event the city will be hosting after the  rehabilitation of the Joaquin F. Enriquez sports complex.

ZPRAA will bring elementary and secondary athletes together coming from all over region 9.

During the ZPRAA meet, there are 40 sports events for men and women for secondary and 37 sports events for elementary divisions respectively. (RGAAGo)
