Ong retires, Abubakar takes over as OIC-ZCMC Print

Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) has a new OIC Chief of Hospital after Dr. Romeo A. Ong retired from public service yesterday.

The new OIC Chief of Hospital is Dr. Soraya P. Abubakar, a resident of Zamboanga who is the chief of medical professional  at the ZCMC. She specializes in Family Medicine and Dermatology.

According to Ong, the order for Abubakar to take over will become effective on February 15.

The order came from Department of Health (DOH) Manila signed by Secretary of Health Dr. Francisco Duque III.

“I know el maga empleyado professional and they will give all the support that she needs. We have a strategic development plan del hospital up to 2022 si sigi ali this will make ZCMC a center of choice for the people,” Ong said.

Ong who is an Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist first served ZCMC as Chief of Hospital on December 1, 2003.

He spend 39 years in government service, starting his stint at the ZCMC in 1979.

He said that currently, he still has no other plans but relax and spend time with his family.

Some of his accomplishments includes the infrastructure programs of the ZCMC with the support of the DOH, the local government, and congressmen, additional manpower for ZCMC, and the ZCMC’s ISO certification.

He explained, now that the position is vacant, the OIC status in ZCMC will be temporary as DOH will conduct screening of applicants by March.

Abubakar is one of two applicants from Zamboanga city.  The other is Dr Nida Tan. (R.G. A A. Go)
