Multi-sectors join fight vs TB PDF Print E-mail

Anti-TB champions filled the main thoroughfares yesterday afternoon as they joined the 3rd Rotary Bike, Run and Walk to Stop TB Now, an advocacy campaign culminating the lung month celebration in Zamboanga.

Jointly organized by the Rotary Clubs of Zamboanga, World Vision Development Foundation and the Zamboanga Hermosa TB Council, the 3-in-one activity was intended to drum up awareness on the prevention and control of tuberculosis.

The event kicked off at the Paseo del Mar and ended at the Baliwasan grandstand.
Mayor Celso Lobregat in his message thanked the participants for helping in the effort to stamp out tuberculosis. He likewise cited the numerous gains that the city has achieved in the fight against TB as he recognized the efforts of all the agencies and the non-government organizations and civic groups.

Congresspersons Beng Climaco and Erbie Fabian were also expected to be present during the event.

City Health Officer Rodel Agbulos acknowledged the participants and the different agencies and groups that helped in making the 3-in-one event a reality.

He likewise urged all individuals with the symptoms of TB to avail of the services offered by the local government and the other partners in the anti-tb campaign. He stressed that the disease is preventable and curable.

The 3rd Rotary Bike, Run and Walk to Stop TB now was also held in coordination with the World Vision Foundation, city government, Philippine Business for Social Progress, Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, USAID-TBLINC, Zamboanga TB Task Force Association Inc., Zamboanga Runners Club, Zamboanga Bikers Club, WMSU College of nursing and the Department of Health. 

Other sponsors were the Samsung, Globe, Landco and Congresspersons Climaco and Fabian.
Valuable prizes including two television sets and other items were raffled off during the program at the grandstand. — Sheila Covarrubias
