Newly appointed PNP Police Regional Office- ARMM Regional Director Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares visited the Basilan Provincial Police Office in Camp Menzi, Isabela City last Wednesday.

During his visit, Mijares acknowledged the effort of the Basilan Provincial Police Office headed by Sr. Supt. Nickson Muksan and Task Force Basilan headed by Brig. Gen. Juvymax Uy in the series of arrests against members of the Abu Sayyaf in the province.

He said that the successful operations have an effect in the present campaign of terrorists to re-group.

“With the intensified operations of our Intelligence community, sa tingin ko kaunti na lang ang Abu Sayyaf dito sa Basilan at Sulu,” said Mijares.

He, however, said that some lawless elements have transferred from Basilan and other island provinces to Marawi city where they participated in the conflict against government troops.

Mijares warned that the terrorists are now re-grouping and recruiting men from Lanao del Sur and the island provinces in South Western Mindanao.

Mijares’ visit coincided with the arrest of another Abu Sayyaf member in Isabela City last Wednesday.

Mijares directed the different police stations to be extra-vigilant and alert during their operations against lawless elements.  (Allen Abastillas)
