Police have taken into custody a minor who authorities believe can provide information that may solve the murder of Rizza May Toribio, the woman found buried in a creek in barangay Maasin.

Sinunuc Police Station Commander Sr. Insp. Daniel Taub identified the minor as a certain Criz, the nephew of Toribio’s live-in partner, Edison Macansantos.

Police said that Criz was often seen in the company of Macansantos.

Last January 29 at around 1am, Rizza May called up her mother using Macansantos’ cell phone to ask for help.

Rizza May told her mother that she was being maltreated by Macansantos.

After three hours, Toribio’s mother tried to call her daughter but the latter was already out of reach.

At 9am that same day, Toribio’s mother and stepfather went to Macansantos’ house to look for Rizza May but they were told that she had already left the place.

A week later, the Toribio family reported Rizza May as missing.

On February 13,  police invited Macansantos and Criz to the police station to shed light on Rizza May’s disappearance but Macansantos told them that she had left him for another man.

Police conducted follow-up operations until they were able to recover the decomposing body of Rizzamae buried in a creek in Sitio Cabigan, Maasin.

Police are currently conducting manhunt operations.

Meanwhile, Criz was temporarily turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for temporary custody.  (Dan Toribio)
