Department of Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III will be the guest of honor of the 81st Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga celebrations.

Dominguez will grace the 81st Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga as guest of honor and keynote speaker of the celebration’s main program which will be held at the City Hall grounds on February 26.

Dominguez was born in Zamboanga City and is the grandson of Carlo Dominguez Sr. who served as pre-World War II manager of the Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI) in Zamboanga.

He currently serves as the nation’s 31st Secretary of Finance under President Rodrigo Duterte.

The Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga will be a month-long celebration with fitting activities to commemorate the city’s charter anniversary.

On February 26, the main program celebration will kick off with the Grand Civic-Military parade at 7AM from the City Fire station to the City Hall grounds, followed by the main program at 8 AM.

Zamboanga City was formally inaugurated as a chartered city on February 26, 1937, making it one of the oldest chartered cities in the Philippines. It also marks the day when the first set of City officials, led by Mayor Nicasio Valderoza, was sworn into office. (Jasmine Mohammadsali)
