Two major thoroughfares, Governor Camins Avenue and Airport road, are expected to be widened this year as another solution to traffic congestion.

First District Congressman Celso Lobregat said that the DPWH-DEO is set to widen Governor Camins Avenue by an additional two lanes from the junction of Nuñez Extension to Sta. Maria.

San Ignacio Bridge, located in front of Jollibee, was also included in the road widening.

The DPWH allocated funding of P75.4-million for the road and P18-million for the bridge, respectively.

Lobregat said that the purpose of the project is to ease traffic congestion in front of KCC Mall.

Meanwhile, the Airport road going towards the Baliwasan Chico road, will also be widened.

The project has a budgetary appropriation of P93.1-million.

Lobregat said that almost all barangays in District 1, regardless of color or political affiliation, will have projects depending on the need.

Quiere yo, alegre el maga barangay, poreso ta lleva kita mga proyekto para de todo que ta beneficia con el mga constituentes na barangay,” Lobregat said.

He said that all in all for 2018, the DPWH-DEO is to implement 52 projects worth P738.755 million. This is broken down to 25 road and bridges projects amounting to P467.375 million; 19 flood control and drainage projects amounting to P236.5 million; and 8 multipurpose building projects worth P34.9 million.

Lobregat said that the DPWH-DEO which implements projects below P100-million will have its hands full this year until 2019.

There have been substantial increases in the appropriation implemented by the DEO from P207 million in 2014, P328 million in 2015, P 418 million in 2016 to 2017. There was a huge 78% increase to P746 million. For 2018, the budget is maintained at P738 million. – Dexter Yap
