The Philippine Port Police Division has advised commercial vessel crew against the entry of ambulant vendors inside their boats as the latter can be used by terrorists in implementing their nefarious plans.

Supt. Jezrel G. Gesulgon, Port Police Division Station Commander, said that port police has recently arrested an ambulant vendor who had been recruited by the Abu Sayyaf within the port premises.

Gesulgon also said that these vendors can be hired by terrorists to bring in luggage bearing explosives inside the boat for a higher fee.

Unlike porters who have identification cards, vendors do not have any means through which they can be identified.

“The high price offered by terrorists will attract them without hesitation and without knowing that the baggage carried by the vendors are illegal or bombs or explosives that could endanger the passenger,”Gesulgon explained.

He asked for the cooperation of vessel crew members since port police personnel cannot drive the vendors away once the latter possesses a ticket and are already inside the vessel.

Gesulgon asked commercial vessel owners and crew to implement their security plan to make sure that their passengers are safe.  (Allen Abastillas)
