Dominguez to Lobregat: Legislate airport transfer Print

Department of Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez has advised First District Congressman Celso Lobregat to file a bill to transfer the authority of the Zamboanga International Airport from the Department of Transportation to the city government of Zamboanga.

The advice was made in a speech delivered by Dominguez during the celebration of the 81st Dia de Zamboanga last Monday.

Dominguez said that his office is open to the airport transfer from its present location to barangay Mercedes.

“My department will certainly support that effort but we have to request that the congressman here, Congressman Celso Lobregat, also file a form of legislation to transfer the ownership of this airport to Zamboanga city and from there you. can more forward very quickly,”  said Dominguez.

In his speech, Dominguez also said that MIndanao will be the recipient of many infrastructure projects under the Duterte administration.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has 754 road projects in Mindanao amounting to P23-billion for 2018.

Zamboanga city alone has a total of 102  road construction and improvement projects worth P1.16-billion.

Dominguez said that the improving growth corridor in Mindanao involves the construction of a 276 kilometer network of roads spanning Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay provinces.

The project, which starts this year, will cost P21-billion.
