Fire Prevention Month kicks off today with a series of activities aimed towards advocating fire safety and prevention.

Local firemen have lined-up a series of activities for the whole month of March in line with this year’s theme:  Ligtas na Pilipinas ang Ating Hangad, Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sarili Ipatupad.

The day will start with a Eucharistic Mass at the Pasonanca parish church at 5am.

This will be followed by a motorcade from Pasonanca to the Zamboanga city fire department at Guardia Nacional where all the firemen will converge for the advocacy rally and parade.

The parade will culminate at the Paseo del Mar where a short program will be held with Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar as Guest of Honor and Speaker.

“We must make every day fire prevention day.  It should not be only this month that we must be responsible and be aware about the cause and effect of conflagration. It is everybody’s concern to avoid being victims of fire to protect our lives and properties,” said Zamboanga District Fire Marshall F/Supt Jhufel Brañanola.

After the program, firemen will also display their skills by the BFP-9 contingent that will be sent to the National Fire Olympics in Metro Manila.

Brañanola also said that the different fire sub-stations in the city also have their respective advocacy campaigns for fire prevention. – Bhong Simbajon/RMN News
