Two children died in barangay Tumaga earlier this week after exhibiting symptoms of measles.

Tumaga Barangay Chairman Jackie Lim identified the children as a 2 year old and a 3-month old.  Both are residents of Masuhud Drive in Tumaga.

Lim said that the children are indigents and both died in the hospital after exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

Meanwhile, Lim also confirmed that some parents in the barangay are still hesitant to have their children immunized against measles.

The root of their worry is the Dengvaxia incident which scared parents into having their children immunized against certain diseases.

“Si tan house to house, ta sigui yo para man convince conel parents.  No man focus na Dengvaxia.  Precura el measles cay el sarampion un rato lang se tan tapon,”  Lim said.

There are three groups in Tumaga conducting the mass vaccination on children from 6 to 59 months.

The barangay captain instructed the health workers to go back to the parents who initially refused to have their children vaccinated. (RGAAGo)
