The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) will be offering this year the BS Biomedical Engineering course, the first of its kind in the country.

Biomedical Engineering can be described as the marriage between the fields of medical health care, engineering and Information Technology (IT).

The course will be offered for school year 2018-2019 at the Salvador SJ Campus located along La Purisima Street.

Eugene Kanindot, ADZU Director of the Center for Information Technology, said that the school has been ready since 2014 to offer the course.

Faculty personnel handling the subjects have been trained in Canada, Kanindot said.

There will only be 20 slots available for the program.

BS Biomedical Engineering will be a four-year course whose students do not need to pass any board examination to practice.

Opportunities for graduates of the course include being an independent service provider by performing routine and on-demand maintenance and repair.

They can also be consultants who will be providing assessment and expert advice or become in-house medical staff in a biomedical engineering department.

Graduates can also manage medical equipment and be innovators in research and development.

The mission of the program is to serve the needs of the region, enhance health delivery services through engineering and technology and to bring technology to the point of care in the hospital and in the community level.

Interested parties have to take the ADZU Entrance Examination on March 3 and 10 and visit the ADZU admissions office.  (RGAAGo)
