The City Government of Zamboanga is set to hire 2,766 students for the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) program (summer job), an annual project aim to help poor but deserving students.

Ma. Socoro Rojas, City Social Welfare and Development Officer, said in an interview that they will hire 1,400 high school students for the first batch and also 1,366 college students for the second batch  .

Interested students will have to apply through their respective barangays in their locality and they will have to log in using www.dole9.org/spes. For the first batch deadline is from February 20 to March 10 while for the second batch is from March 15 to April 10.

According to Rojas, for the previous year, the city government allocated P9 million for the SPES program and by this year the appropriation went up to P15 million.

For the SPES, 60 percent of the worker’s salary will be paid by the employer which is the city government while the 40 percent will be shouldered by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)

These students will work in the city offices and barangays for 20 days and will receive P9,554.60.

The students are enjoined to use their money for tuition, uniform, and school supplies come opening of classes. (R.G. A A. Go)
