New parking policy starts today Print

Combined police operatives and city ordinance task force personnel together with other agencies will start implementing at 2 p.m. today, March 6, onwards the “No parking on both sides of the road” policy, pursuant to City Ordinance 248 or the Revised Traffic Code of Zamboanga City.

Sr. Insp. Shellamae Chang, spokesperson of the Zamboanga City Police Office, announced during the press briefing yesterday that two operative groups have been created for the purpose: the east and west groups.

The east group will operate on major roads from Veterans Ave. to Veterans Extension, Cabato Road, Tetuan highway (Maria Clara L. Lobregat Highway) all the way to Gov. Camins Ave.

The west group will saturate on Ledesma St. to San Jose Road, Baliwasan Chico to Castillo Road, Gov. Camins to Canelar.

|Sr. Insp. Chang said personnel from the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and Highway Patrol will also form part of both operating groups.

Under the traffic code, all types of vehicles are not allowed to park on both sides of the road at any time, regardless of the duration.

“Strictly no parking on both sides. Not five minutes, not 30 seconds, not at all, even if the vehicle’s hazard lights are on,” Chang said. “Kahit mag hazard light pa poh kayo, with or without the driver, as along as the vehicle is on the roadside, you will be issued citation ticket (or TOP).”

She said information campaign with the distribution of flyers had already been conducted by the police and City Administrator’s Office, thus the implementation will start at 2 p.m. today onwards.-(Vic Larato)
