The City of Zamboanga will join the nation in celebrating and recognizing women for the 2018 National Women’s Month this Thursday, March 8.

Spearheaded by the City Government, through the Gender and Development (GAD), and the Local Council of Women, the city’s Women’s Month celebration will kick off with the Dia de Las Mujeres Parade and Program on March 8.

The parade will start at the City Fire Station and end with a program at the Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar. Assembly time for the parade will be at 6:30 AM at Ledesma Street, in front of the Fire Station.

After the main program, a Women’s Fair activity will be held where free services will be provided for women participants. To run from 8 AM to 12 NN at Centro Latino, services at the Women’s Fair will include free breast screening and consultation for the first 100 registrants, courtesy of the Ciudad Medical Zamboanga, free dental check up for the first 100 registrants, courtesy of the Philippine Dental Society, and free BP Checking, and Glucose/Diabetes testing for the first 50 registrants by the City Health Office.

The City Civil Registrar will also be on hand to provide free civil records.

The National Women’s Month Celebration every March is part of the worldwide observance of the International Women’s Day (IWD).

From 2017 – 2022, the Women’s Month celebration will banner the theme “We Make Change for Women” to highlight the empowerment of women as active contributors of development. (Jasmine Mohammadsali)
