Mayor Beng Climaco will lead the celebration kickoff of the Marcha de Las Mujeres today, March 8.

The Marcha de las Mujeres, a celebration of all women in society and their role as active contributors of development, will be marked by a parade from the City Fire Station to the Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar at 6:30 AM, and a Women’s Fair initiative offering free services for women at Centro Latino later in the day.

A staunch advocate for women’s rights, Mayor Climaco has expressed her support for women empowerment, and has urged for the inclusion and safeguarding the welfare of women in her agenda.

Climaco is also one of the principal authors of RA 9710, also known as the Magna Carta of Women, during her stint in Congress.

Joining the chief executive are the Local Council of Women, the Gender and Development (GAD) and employees of the local government, representatives from national agencies, organizations and groups, the academe, and different sectors of the city.

The National Women’s Month Celebration every March is part of the worldwide observance of the International Women’s Day (IWD).

From 2017 – 2022, the Women’s Month celebration will banner the theme “We Make Change for Women” to highlight the empowerment of women as active contributors of development. (Jasmine Mohoammadsali)
