The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-9) has formed a task force to investigate the possiblity of lapses in a warehouse fire where a two-month old infant perished last March 2.

“We are looking into the liability of the management of the warehouse where the little angel passed away, the makeshift bunkers in that lot as well as the electrical wiriing in the area, which are subject of this investigation,” said Fire Marshall Supt. Jhufel Brañanola in an interview over RMN Zamboanga.

Brañanola made the statement after assigning BFP personnel to investigate the incident.

The official also aired the possiblity of filing criminal charges against management, which could happen depending on the outcome of the investigation.

Brañanola said that the investigation will be prioritized over other matters to prevent similar cases from happening in the future.

“This is what we are saying, we have to be aware of the possible causes of fire especially now that the weather is very humid and prone to conflagrations,” Brañanola said.

Recall that 2-month old Ronnel Liguid Jr., son of Ronnel and Jovelyn, was killed in the conflagration after being trapped inside their makeshift house located within the warehouse compound.

Jovelyn told fire investigators that she was having a chat with her neighbor outside their house when she was informed that their house was on fire.

The couple attempted to rescue their son but they failed due to the intense heat of the fire.
