The Police Regional Office 9 (PRO-9) through the Regional Investigation Detection and Management Division (RIDMD) has directed all Provincial and City Police Offices including Isabela City Police Station to establish Indigenous People (IP) desks in their respective stations.

PRO9 spokesperson Chief Insp. Helen Galvez said that the IP desks shall be manned by responsible uniformed PNP personnel to address and cater to the issues and concerns of the Indigenous People in the region.

According to Galvez , the Zamboanga Del Norte Provincial Police Office, Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office, Zamboanga Del Sur Provincial Police Office, Zamboanga City Police Office and Isabela City Police have already placed the IP desks into operation under their respective Office of Investigation and Detection Management sections.

The spokesperson explained that the IP desks are just like other desks existing in the police stations, such as the human rights desk and women children protection desk.

The IP desk will be responsible for the protection and promotion of the interest and well- being of indigenous people with due regard to their beliefs, customs, traditions and institutions.

The putting-up of IP desk is an initiative of the Police Regional Office under the stewardship of the Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Billy B Beltran, purposely to address the various issues and concerns confronting the Indigenous People to effectively and efficiently deliver the basic services they need.  (Dan Toribio)
