Officials and personnel stationed at the Zamboanga seaport engaged in a month-long hands-on anti-terrorism training exercise held at the Zamboanga port.

The seminar, held from February 1 to March 8 and dubbed as “International Police Operations Watchmaker Philippines 2018” was sponsored by the French government.

The training exercise was held at the local port to provide an actual training to officials and personnel to prevent the entry and exit of lawless elements.

Philippine Center for Transnational Crime Western MIndanao Field Office Head Michael Tulens disclosed that the participants include members of frontline agencies who enforce laws on terrorism and lawlessness committed in government ports and private wharves.

Participants were trained on recording the list of vessel transports, taking note of the number of passengers entering and leaving the city, the number of cargoes loaded in vessels and significant incidents committed within the wharf.

Participants were also briefed on personalities included in the International Police (Interpol) watchlist.

Participants in the seminar include personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard, Maritime Police, Bureau of Immigration and Deportation, Police Regional Office-9 Intelligence and Explosives Ordnance Division.

Similar training exercises are being conducted in Visayas and Luzon and other areas in Mindanao.  (Allen Abastillas)
