A suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was arrested by authorities during manhunt operations in Malamawi Island, Isabela city at dawn yesterday.

A Police Regional Office-9 report identified the suspect as 57-year-old Masser Lim Omar, a resident of barangay Panigayan, Malamawi Island, Isabela city.

Omar was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention in connection with the Tumahubong incident.

In March 2000, a priest and 50 teachers were held hostage by lawless elements in Tumahubong, Sumisip.

Units responsible for the arrest include the Isabela city police, 15th Special Forces Company Philippine Army, PNP Maritime Group- Isabela and the 304th PAF Intelligence Unit led by Insp. Kent Gudmalin under the supervision of Supt. Restituto Pangusban.

The suspect was brought to the Isabela City Police Station for proper disposition. (Dan Toribio)
