The 902nd Maritime Police Station in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay apprehended three fishing boats for various violations during a series of seaborne operations over the weekend.

Supt. Jacob G. Macabali, Regional Maritime Unit-9 chief, said that the three boats were apprehended for fishing at the Buluan Island Marine Sanctuary, a protected area.

The boat men also failed to present registration papers to authorities.

Under the country’s fishery code, Maritime Police units are authorized to check on vessels’ registration papers and requisite markings for proper identification.

Meanwhile, Macabali also called on boat owners in Zamboanga’s east coast to register their vessels.

This after observing that several boats do not exhibit the proper marking.

Macabali said that proper registration is required since most pumpboats are being used for illegal activities.  (Allen Abastillas)
