Assassins boldly gunned down a vessel chief engineer and a policewoman in two separate gun attacks during the height of rush hour yesterday morning in barangays Tetuan and San Roque.

Vessel Chief Engineer Almondo Rosalios Monterola was on his way home aboard his motorcycle along Don Alfaro Street a few minutes before 7am when the incident took place.

Upon reaching the portion of the road fronting City Mall, two men riding tandem on another motorcycle tried to block his path.

The backrider then shot the seaman, pumping two bullets on his body while both motorcycles were in motion.

Monterola plunged to the ground while the gunmen sped away.

Monterola was still breathing but expired from bullet wounds.

The second incident happened less than three hours later while PO2 Lydia Hada Halid was driving her scooter motorcycle in San Roque with a cousin and niece as backriders.

When the trio reached the area near Brigada Drive, two men riding tandem on another motorcycle chased Halid’s vehicle.

Halid’s passengers looked on in horror as one of the men shot the policewoman three times on the head.

Halid was hit while her kin escaped unhurt.

Halid died on the spot due to fatal bullet wounds.

The suspects escaped after the incident.

Police are looking into a work-related angle as possible motive for the crime.

The twin murders came two days after an Intelligence officer of the Aviation office was gunned down along Governor Camins road last Saturday evening.

Police are still conducting pursuit operations to arrest the suspect. (Dan Toribio)
