The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Zamboanga District Office is continuing preparations for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections despite reports of another poll postponement.

Zamboanga District Election Officer Atty. Roy Cañete said that preparations for the election will not be affected with reports of another postponement.

“Committee pa lang aquel ya pasa.  Pasa pa se na plenary then necessita counterpart bill from Senate which the Senate is not interested in filing,”  Cañete explained.

Aside from these, congress will go on recess by March 23 and will resume on May 14, thus a slim chance that election will be postponed anew.

“Sayang el ya gasta el Comelec,”  Cañete said.

The Comelec District Office is currently waiting for the conduct of training for teachers and Comelec employees and the arrival of election materials and ballot boxes.

Based on the calendar released by the Comelec for the May14 Barangay and SK elections, filing of certificates of candidacy will be from April 14 to 20 while campaign period was scheduled from May 4 to 12.

The election period for the May polls runs from April 14 to May 12.
